Quarantine Closet Cleanse

So, you’re stuck at home…

I’m going to be honest with you. I’ve had multiple media outlets reach out about how to stay stylish while working from home. It’s been difficult to formulate a response to this, as my true feeling is that we should take this time to focus on what’s truly important. Reconnect with love ones. Find new inspiration. Slow down and take a much needed breath. These have been my priorities over the last two weeks.

With that being said, I realize that most of you have time on your hands and the urge to be productive and get organized for the future.

Here’s a little closet “How To” for those of you that are feeling overwhelmed by the task of editing your closet.

1. Set aside space in your room and take everything out of your closet that you haven’t worn in the past 6 months

2. Separate items into piles: Perfect Fit, Try-On, Needs Alterations, Donate and Consign

3. Evaluate items in the Try-On pile based on these criteria:

– Does it fit?

– Does it flatter?

– Are there 3 ways to style it with my current wardrobe?

– If I was shopping today, would I buy it?

4. Set aside sentimental items that you want to keep but will no longer wear. These items should have their own place in your home. I recommend a bin from The Container Store to keep special pieces without them crowding your closet space and creating more confusion around getting dressed. Short on space? Snap a photo, keep an album in your phone and LET. IT. GO.

5. Sort seasonal items and store separately if space allows

6. Put items back in your closet and organize by sleeve length, color and garment type (camisoles and sleeveless tops by color, short sleeve tops by color, long sleeve tops by color, jackets grouped together, pants together and so on!)

7. Step back and admire your newly organized closet
